In-sight on whey protein supplements

Next topic of common supplements used in the gym is Whey protein. This is the powdered drinks the muscle head of the gym drink, but it can be used by everyone not just the muscle heads and it’s very beneficial for serious gym enthusiasts looking to get the most out the product.

If you walk into a clicks, dis-chem, or any pharmacy store, whey protein tubs and bags will be sold at ludicrous amounts of money that you can get much cheaper from online stores and have it delivered to you, than pay twice as much for the same product at the store.

Whey protein in a nutshell is a recovery drink &/or a SUPPLEMENTATION of protein. Note that it is not a substitute for protein and you are still needed to eat actual foods for a protein source, this supplement is simply an add on.

There are 3 main different types of whey protein you can purchase and each one has a different use/purpose:

1.) Mass gainer/ high crab whey protein: This is the cheapest whey protein you can buy, the reason for this is because it is high in carbohydrates and sugar and lower in protein. It can SOMETIMES be used as a meal replacement. This whey was designed to promote weight gain and would be suggested to have before your workout to fuel your body with carbs since it is a high carb and sugar profile product (16g-20g carbs per serving). If you are on a fat lose diet, I advise against using this whey and rather use the other two types of whey protein.

2.) Whey protein blend: This whey is the happy medium between whey isolate and mass gainer. It’s essentially a lower carb and higher protein blend whey. Low carb meaning nothing more than 5g of carbs per serving which is better than a mass gainer’s 16g-20g per serving. These are mainly meant for post workout consumption to replenish lost glycogen in the body and to start protein synthesis after training.

3.) Whey protein isolate: This whey is a whey protein that has been furthered processed to remove most of the lactose and fat from the product. This is done to maximize the protein contents of the product; all whey protein isolates are comprised of no less than 90% protein, and has little to no carbs in the product. This is the purest form of whey protein and of course the most expensive. You only get isolate if you’re a sponsored athlete of the company or you’re very rich and have money to spend (because it’s so expensive it doesn’t make sense to get if you’re just a regular person try to lead a healthy life style)
